Our cottage is in the very pretty countryside of the Tuscan/Umbrian border near the historic hill top town of Cortona . This beautiful town with its museums, cathedral and art galleries is a wonderful place to explore. It provided the backdrop for Francis Meyes best selling novel 'Under the Tuscan Sun'  which led to the film of the same name, shot locally.

The cottage is ideally situated in a beautiful valley, quiet enough to be private but with easy access to shops and village life. It has 2  pretty gardens for relaxing with beautiful all round views of the hills.

Although the gardens of the cottage are very private it is not isolated. We are blessed with wonderful neighbours! Opposite is the cottage of Ivana, who looks after our house and down the track is the house of Anna and Stefan, who speak perfect English. Ivana cleans and manages the house, her brother Lorenzo looks after the pool, her nephew Davide cuts the grass and her mother Bianca does the garden - a family affair - and a glimpse of the importance of extended family life that is still so much part of the local culture.

It is a 15 minute walk (5 mins on the electric bikes!) to the lively village of Pergo where you will find 2 bars, an excellent restaurant, a take away/eat in pizzeria, a supermarket, a clothes shop, hardware shop, florist and perfumery! Go for an excellent pizza on Saturday night and get a flavour of Italian community as you watch several generations of Italian family come and eat together.
